Yes, the 60yr old Ghulam Mohammad Guroo is the Kashmiri boatman who risked his life to save the lives of drowning tourists who, unfortunately, is not alive today only because of the same tourists.
Guroo saved the lives of Three tourists whom he had taken for a Shikara ride in the river Jhelum. During the ride, the boat capsized but Guroo, even without thinking once about his own life, jumped into the water to save those strangers.
Another motorboat did arrive to help him but till then he had rescued the tourists, unfortunately, he didn’t know his fate. The tourists forced him to rescue their bags for which he jumped again into the gushing waters and got swept away by them. He is missing since then and there are no whereabouts his body.
It has been three days to this incident, Guroo’s family is still waiting for his body to be found but police, unfortunately, couldn’t found anything and the tourists, just after this mishappening they got into rickshaws and left.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti visited Gurro’s grieving family and said the following words:
“By his sacrifice, this man has shown the real image of Kashmir. I salute this brave man and assure his family that the government will do whatever is possible to help them.”
The bravery of this Kashmiri boatman is really very appreciable which also taught us the real meaning of humanity, unfortunately, we wish those tourists also had some sense.
