Azim Premji, Chairman of IT firm Wipro has been named as the most generous man of the year 2015 according to a report from Hurun Research Institute, which ranks the most generous individuals in the country.
The 70 year old businessman has given donations worth 27,514Crore rupees to education sector in the year 2015. This is double the amount he donated in 2014 which was around 12,316 crore rupees. He has topped the list 3rd year in a row.The Azim Premji foundation works in the education sector with operations in eight States and over 3,50,000 schools.
With contribution of Rs 2,404 crore, Nandan and Rohini Nilekani were on second position, while former Infosys chairman Narayana Murthy came in third with contribution of Rs 1,322 crore. The richest Indian, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries (RIL), stood sixth on the philanthropy list with donations of Rs. 345 crore.
The contributions from the top 10 philanthropists nearly doubled to Rs 34,077 crore during the year.
