The year 2015 saw some really shocking and major controversies which involved Bollywood actors getting into disputable and politically sensitive issues creating strife and scuffles in all of the industry as well as country. From Aamir Khan’s ‘Intolerance’ debate to Radhika Apte’s MMS, here’s a quick recap from 2015.
Aamir Khan’s Intolerance Debate
The perfectionist actor, Aamir Khan faced a lot of flak for his comments on ‘Intolerance’ in India and how his wife Kiran Rao asked him if they will have to move out of the country fearing the safety for her children. These comments instigated an uproar and outrage on social media with divided opinions.
Pahlaj Nihalani’s “Sanskari” Censorship
The chairperson of Censor Board, Pahlaj Nihalani faced quite a lot of heat for issuing Diktats on a list of word and scenes which will need to be ‘censored’ before clearing the scenes. After censoring kissing scenes from the latest Hollywood Bond movie Spectre by 50 percent, Pahlaj Nihalani received a lot of criticism and there were reports that he would be ousted.
Salman Khan’s Hit-and-Run Case
Salman Khan, after 13 years of fighting accusations of hit-and-run in the drunken driving case was finally acquitted of all charges this month. The Bombay High Court even blames the police for poor investigation and unreliable witnesses. Hence, Salman Khan walked out a free man after putting up a strong case. The decision however, was met with both happiness and objection.
Ameesha Patel was trolled for not standing up during National Anthem
In October, Kushal Tandon, ex-Bigg Boss contestant accused actress Ameesha Patel for not standing up as a mark of respect for the National Anthem which was being played before a movie screening. The actress defended herself by saying that she was menstruating and had to take a quick escape to the bathroom before the movie started. Her excuse, however, was heavily trolled on social media.
Anushka Sharma Blamed For Indian Cricket Team’s Poor Performance
Clearly, the actress had to go through the entirely unnecessary backlash on social media when India Lost the Cricket World cup semi-finals earlier this year, only because she is in a relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli. Ever since, every time the team does do well or Virat loses runs on the field, Anushka is targeted as the butt of the jokes.
SRK’s Remarks about Intolerance
Before Aamir got all the light on this issue, King Khan too rubbed his hands in the same ash when spoke about ‘intolerance’ in India. Incidentally, it was linked to Enforcement Directorate (ED) notices that were sent to him a couple of days prior to this.
Sanjay Dutt’s Parole Trouble
Actor Sanjay Dutt has been serving his time in the Yerwada Jail, since May 2013. But when Sanjay was granted Parole only to see to his daughter Iqra who was undergoing a nose surgery, the news was met with a lot of criticism. Sanjay will be out of the Jail early next year after completing his sentence.
The Noodle Brand Controversy involving Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Preity Zinta
When the Food safety and standards Authority of India (FSSAI) banned the popular Noodle brand Maggi for high lead content back in august, brand ambassadors Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Preity Zinta were sent legal notice and an FIR was lodged against the actors too after a lawyer in Uttar Pradesh lodged a case against the three actors for endorsing the brand.
Radhika Apte’s MMS
Actress Radhika Apte found herself in the midst of an MMS scandal not once, but twice. First, nude photographs were circulated online in February and then a video clip of the actress in a bold scene from Anurag Kashyap’s short film got leaked. The angry director spoke, “She feels victimised and I feel responsible.” The short film was meant for international audiences.
Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor’s AIB Roast Knockout.
The All India Bakchod (AIB) Roast video featuring Actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor surfaced online in January and the actors faced flak. Police complaints were filed against the actors, AIB Roasters (Members) and filmmaker Karan Johar.
