Yet again at the world’s largest sports platform, we have witnessed another inspirational incident at the Rio Olympics 2016. Runners Abbey D’Agostino from The United States of America and Nikki Hamblin from New Zealand may not have won 5,000-meter meter heat in the Rio Olympics, but their attitudes are absolutely gold-medal caliber. Nikki Hamblin, who is representing New Zealand in this summer Olympic games, fell on the athletic track partly through the race, taking American runner D’Agostino down with her.

The American, unfortunately, injured herself very brutally. Nikki Hamblin stopped to check if her competitor could continue and helped D’Agostino get up.Just after when the two athletes had started running again, D’Agostino began stumbling, her right leg got injured as a result of the collapse. In severe pain, D’Agostino fell again to the ground, cringing on all fours on the Olympic track and the pain was clearly observed from her face. Hamblin after the race said to the reporters that –

When I went down it was like, ‘what’s happening? Why am I on the ground? And suddenly there’s this hand on my shoulder, like ‘get up, get up, we have to finish this!’ I’m so grateful for Abbey for doing that for me. That girl is the Olympic spirit right there. In future, when I’m going to look back at the Rio Olympic games,  I’m not going to remember where I finished, I’m not going to remember my time, but, I’ll always remember this moment.

Although Hamblin and D’Agostino failed to reach the qualifying time for the heat, both have been included in the 5000m final on Friday after protests from their teams and the Olympic spirit being the major reason.
