It seems Haryana is a state of Dhongi Babas as we are witnessing cases of such self-styled Godmen one by one constantly. Today again the government of Haryana has imposed Section 144 and lock down the state ahead of a local court’s verdict in two cases against self-styled godman Rampal, the head of Satlok Ashram in Barwala.

The verdict is just a day after rapist Baba Ram Rahim sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in different rape cases. A case was filed against Sant Rampal and his followers on November 17, 2014, under IPC sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of his public function), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (Assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty).

In the same year, on the very next day on November 18, 2017, another case was registered against Rampal and his followers – Purshotam Dass, Raj Kumar, Mohinder Singh, Rajender Singh, Rahul and several others under IPC sections 147 (Rioting), 149 (Unlawful assembly, every other member of such assembly shall be guilty of the offence), 188 (disobedient to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) and 342 (Wrongfully confining any person).

Sant Rampal was a junior engineer in the Haryana Department of Irrigation before becoming a saint. He was arrested by the police in November 2014 following a 30-hour standoff wherein Rampal’s militia allegedly tried to stop paramilitary forces from entering the Satlok ashram. Rampal is accused of abducting a number of women.
