Islamic State has now issued and sanctioned a fatwa (religious order) according to which harvesting of human organs is permissible raising concerns that the extremist group may be trafficking body parts.
A document secured by the officials in a raid was reviewed and translated by the US Government which stated that taking organs from living captives in order to save a muslim’s life, even if it may kill the captive, is permissible.
As per report from Reuters, the document was procured among a trove of data and other information which was obtained by US Special Forces in a raid conducted in eastern Syria, in May. “The apostate’s life and organs don’t have to be respected and may be taken with impunity,” says the document, “Organs that end the captive’s life if removed: The removal of that type is also not prohibited,” Fatwa Number 68 says, according to a U.S. government translation.
The Document however, does not provide any proof whether Islamic State has actually been engaged in Organ Harvesting or Trafficking but it does provide religious sanction for doing so. The UN Special Envoy has claimed investigation into the matter.
