The IPL is accustomed to celebrating wonderful batting performances where centuries have now become the order of the day and the fielding side has been on the receiving end of a masterclass.
However, there have also been some woeful batting displays down the years in the IPL, where a batsman has struggled to get out of the gate and they have been removed for a duck.
There is a sense of ignominy with getting a duck at any level of cricket, so we have picked out four players who have had the most ducks in IPL history. Oh, and what’s even more interesting, is that three of them are still plying their trade today!
Rohit Sharma (14 ducks, 2008-present)
Sitting atop this unenviable list of players that have had the most ducks, is Rohit Sharma. At first glance, it seems almost scarcely believable that Sharma has had 14 ducks, considering he has amassed over 5,700 runs at IPL level, averaging over 30.
However, Sharma has experienced many mental aberrations at the crease and in this year’s edition of the IPL, his scoring average has been somewhat disappointing, so he will need to address that.
Harbhajan Singh (13 ducks, 2008-2021)
Perhaps better known for being one of the best spin bowling exponents of his generations, Harbhajan Singh generally struggled with the bat. He managed an average of just under 16 with the bat, and he picked up 13 ducks.
Singh played for three teams during his IPL career, including the Chennai Super Kings, who are well supported and carry a lot of favour in the betting markets.
Indeed, aside from the bookmakers in India, there are plenty of online betting sites in Pakistan that will have tons of betting lines per IPL match, including Betfair, where you can wager on everything from the match winner to the total number of sixes hit in a match. And what’s even better, is that you will find daily odds boost here to bolster your chances of maximising your profits should you return a successful betting slip.
Ajinkya Rahane (13 ducks, 2008-present)
Ajinkya Rahane always struck you as one of those solid, if perhaps not always spectacular batsmen. With over 4,000 runs to his name and an average just shy of 31, that’s nothing to be scoffed at.
However, when you factor in that he has had 13 ducks during his IPL career, that tells a story in itself.
Dinesh Karthik (13 ducks, 2008-present)
Rounding off this list, is Dinesh Karthik. His career to date has seen him take in spells at the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. More often than not, he has floundered with the bat, and he has had to head to the pavilion earlier than expected with 13 ducks.
Yes, he may have hit over 4,200 runs in the IPL with a high score of 97, but far too often, he comes unstuck very early on in any given innings.
