Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni who once graced the silver screen in the 1990s took ‘sanyaas’ for renunciation to transition into a spiritual path. On Friday morning she traveled to Kinnar Akhara in Mahakumbh to meet Acharya Mahamandaleshwar, and Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi. The visit included blessing ceremonies followed by talks about her plans to become a spiritual leader at the high Mahamandaleshwar level.

The sadhvi transformation of Mamta featured her wearing a saffron robe together with a neck Rudraksha garland and a saffron bag across her shoulder. Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri became her new religious name when she took her spiritual vows. The social media shared video footage showing Mamta dressed as a Hindu monk. And now the video of her dressed as a Hindu monk has gone viral on social media, capturing public attention and sparking conversations.
A New Chapter in Mahakumbh
Later that day Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi brought Mamta Kulkarni before All India Akhara President Ravindra Puri. Where Mamta explained her thoughts about religion and spiritual aspects. During their meeting, Mamta Kulkarni explained a Ramayana narrative about Lord Ram’s search for Mata Sita within Chitrakoot’s forests followed by the conversation between Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. Expressing her emotions about being part of Mahakumbh, Mamta who was once a famous Bollywood actress said: “Coming to Mahakumbh and witnessing its grandeur is a truly memorable experience for me. I feel fortunate to be present during this sacred occasion.” She further said “This was the command of Mahadev, Maha Kali, and my Guru. They chose this day for me. I did nothing of my own.”
Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi from Kinnar Akhara established Mamta as a Mahamandaleshwar during the ceremony. According to Tripathi the Akhara accepted Mamta’s connection about eighteen months ago due to her deep dedication toward spiritual pursuits.

Mamta Kulkarni’s life has undergone a dramatic change as she nears her 52nd birthday. Throughout the ’90s Mamta was famous for her films like Karan Arjun alongside Salman Khan. Krantiveer alongside Nana Patekar and Padmini Kolhapure as well as Sabse Bada Khiladi which showcased Akshay Kumar. And then China Gate featuring Nana Patekar and Jackie Chan and finally Andolan. Her last Bollywood film was Kabhi Tum Kabhi Hum, released in 2002. But the actress who was once in the limelight shifted from the glamour world to embrace spiritual leadership.
