International Women’s Day, basically called International Working Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. It perpetuates the struggle for women’s rights. Also March, 8 is being promoted as A Day Without Woman, an event created to highlight the power and significance of women in both domestic and global economy.

Most importantly, it aims to bring the attention to the vital issues such as sexual harassment, discrimination, lower wages etc. On January 21, nearly 5 million people around the world came together to protest against an administration. The organizers of this widely attended Women’s March in Washington have come together again to organize a protest, “A Day Without A Women” on Wednesday.

Women are encouraged to stay home from work, to avoid shopping for the day, or to wear red to show solidarity with the cause. Society couldn’t function without a woman. Workforces to become more dependent on women as they are now more likely to have a college degree than men.

Almost half of America’s workforce would disappear: 47% of workers in the United States are Women.

Education System would collapse: More than 3 quarters of public school teachers are women.

Nearly 15% of the US military would disappear: 214,000 women actively serving in America’s armed forces.

4% of Fortune 500 companies would be without a CEO:  21 of Fortune 500 companies have a woman serving as CEO.

The International Women’s Day theme for 2016 was “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”
