India is a country of rich cultural heritage but unfortunately, some people are fighting over caste-based issues. There are always some people in the society who are always ready to destroy the peace of the place they live in. This is exactly what happened in Saharanpur that terrorized everyone.
A police station and over 20 vehicles were set on fire on Tuesday due to the caste-based riots which first started on last Friday. A group of Dalits wanted permission to organize a ‘maha panchayat’ on Tuesday in the Gandhi Park in Saharanpur in order to get the compensation and relief for those affected in an inter-caste clash last week.
But due to the actions of District Administration who did not allow these Dalits to peacefully conduct a Mahapanchayat, this whole violence took place. Certain people were held and their vehicles burnt, even the media persons were beaten and stones were thrown on the police team. Even the whole police station was burned and the protesters blocked the Chakrota road near Nazirpura, while a building was burnt down on Malhipur road.
These riots resulted in the killing of an innocent person last week including 15 injured men. This happened when a clash started between two communities over the loud music that was played in a procession. And this is not the end, this led to more violence. Even 15 to 20 Dalit houses were burned after this. Seventeen people were arrested after this event.
This is a shameful event that exactly shows the narrowness of our mindset. We need to get over this concept of the caste system which is breaking the society into pieces. We should treat everyone equally without making them feel low. Adults of India should go back to school and learn some moral values. Maybe this will make them treat others as humans.
