The cause for the explosion is yet not known. But according to Lebanese Interior Minister Mohammad Fahmi, the explosive chemicals stored at Port of Beirut may have caused the explosions. The Footage of the blast was shared around by residents on social media that showed smoke rising from the port district that later turned into a huge blast. The fire appeared to spread to a nearby building, triggering the more massive explosion.
The explosion came amid ongoing tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah military group on Lebanon’s southern border. And therefore the authorities have blamed Israel for this.
