We all were expecting some changes in our society as well as in the system after the Nirbhaya case and were expecting that our country will become safer for women. But the reality is totally opposite. Yes! you read that right that there are still no changes after Nirbhaya case, even we saw the same thing done with Asifa in Kashmir and many more. Nothing happened after the protests of people.
Moreover, the crimes against women are increasing day by day. There are many cases who are not even reported.
According to a recent survey of Thomson Reuters Foundation, India tops the list of most dangerous countries for women. India’s rank is number 1 and we were expecting improvement?
This survey was conducted among 193 members of United Nations and was ranked on the basis of “most dangerous for women and the worst for healthcare, economic resources, traditional practices, sexual and non-sexual abuse, and human trafficking.”However, in the same survey in 2011, India’s rank was 4th.
According to Reuters “India tops the list, with levels of violence against women still running high, more than five years after the rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi sparked national outrage and government pledges to tackle the issue.
India ranked as the most dangerous on three issues – the risks women face from sexual violence and harassment, from cultural and traditional practices, and from human trafficking including forced labour, sex slavery and domestic servitude”.
According to my point of view, we should hang our heads in shame. Even after seven decades of independent women are not safe in our country. They are not safe in their homes, let alone outside. So, this is really a disgrace for India.
