The fact that, In India, what’s telecasted on our TV screens, runs in the street, cannot be over-ruled. Be it Salman’s radhe bhaiya look from ‘Tere Naam’ to Munna bhai’s ‘Jadoo ki Jhapki’, everything what the stars do, leaves an behavioral imapct in the viewers. It’s utmost important for the entertainment industry to show its audience something which is both morally and ethically correct. Sexism is as real as the Monday blues and whether we admit it or not, Bollywood movies are full of it.
It’s a very common scenario in Bollywood musicals where the lead actor is chasing and stalking the girl of his dreams until she gives up and agree.
Though the trend seems to be changing for the good now, it will take time before Indians fully understand about the concept of consent. There’s still a lot of glorification and propagation of sexism, misogyny and molestation in the mainstream cinema.
In the name of romance and flirting, actors can be seen harassing and threatening the girl until she finally agrees for a date out or thinking on the matter. It’s an aspect which has always been celebrated because all that happened during an absurd song with much absurd and double meaning lyrics.
All India Bakchod’s new video, Harassment Through the Ages, featuring celebrities like Richa Chada, Vicky Kaushal and Mallika Dua stand against Bollywood’s glaring ways of objectifying women, here’s a hope that we see better things in cinema.
