Air India Express and AirAsia India is all set for a merger yet is now exploring synergies with an aim to constitute a unified customer care point as reported by an official. The Tata group have acquired both the economical airlines and full-service carriers — Air India and Vistara.
On November 2, Air India mentioned in a statement that an operational review will be conducted to constitute a budget carrier for AirAsia India with Air India Express, and further added that the merger is most possibly going to complete by the end of 2023. After that venture will be stamped under the brand name of Air India Express.
As per the data incurred by the corporate affairs ministry, AirAsia India has retitled itself to AIX Connect Pvt Ltd. An official said that the name has been altered in observance of the the merger.
Both the airlines are a adhering to the synergies in accordance with the customer touch points, for instance having a common website, management of social media handles and call centre services. Other aspects includes, common boarding pass and baggage tags.
Air India Express CEO Aloke Singh will be appointed as the chief of the airline from January 1, 2023. “The two constituent airlines will continue to have the full complement of regulatory post-holders until the merger is complete but, for now, a single CEO will provide the clarity and singular accountability necessary to navigate the process,” Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson averred during an internal discussion last week.
This merger will make Air India the largest international carrier and second-largest domestic airline in the country by March 2024.
