Airtel beats BSNL and Reliance Communications, and is India’s fastest internet service provider, according to Netflix data. ISP Speed Index for January 2017 reveals that Bharti Airtel was the fastest internet service provider in India, well when streaming is concerned. The ISP speed index, available on the Netflix website, concluded that Airtel has the top speed measured at 2.25 Mbps.
Though, Airtel’s top internet speed has fallen down because the index also reveals Airtel’s previous speed which was 2.33 Mbps in December. Netflix’s ISP index basically measures prime time performance of Netflix on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) around the world but it differs from the speed tests in which ISPs often cheat.
Reliance Communications claims the eighth position with 1.81 Mbps speed which comes as bit of a surprise. Unsurprisingly BSNL is in the last, at the thirteenth position, being the slowest ISP for Netflix in India, with only 1.09 Mbps.
Netflix’s speed index is actually a sad statement on the India’s all ISPs. Coverage and FuP issues aside, even countries like Brazil and Philippines have better internet speed than India. Japan has the highest speed record of 4.22 Mbps and while Canada is at 3.62 Mbps and Brazil has the internet speed of 3.32 Mbps.
The Netflix ISP speed index makes it clear this is just for the content being streamed on the site. While the broadband providers giving users options for various speeds on the internet connection. Hathway is available in selected cities in India and provides fewer plans, with internet speed up to 50Mbps on limited data (FuP). And Airtel reaches to more people around the country and offers 8Mbps, 16Mbps and up to 50Mbps internet plans.
