Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent or the AQIS has stepped up its game in recruiting Indian Muslims for its so called “global Jihad”. On March 1, 2016 a microsite of the Railnet page of the Indian Government was hacked by the jihadist group to establish their claim of being able to intercept the Web directory of the government.
The page which belongs to the Indian Railways, had a message from Maulana Asim Umar to the Muslims in India. Umar is the chief of AQIS and it is believed he was born in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
“Listen to the echoes of Takbeer coming from Afghanistan. Your brothers, adorned with weapons, are offering their lives in the battlefields”, read the message that was there on the hacked microsite. It even counselled the ‘Muslims of India’ to join others in fighting for Jihad. The excerpts from the message talks about how girls wearing explosive vests enter enemy lines and kill the infidels, with an aim of reaching Allah.
Asim Umar, who moved to Pakistan in the late 1990s asks the Muslims of India to recall the lesson of Jihad and take to the battlefields. Umar has reportedly been playing a prominent role in the propaganda videos of al-qaeda and the Tehrik-i-taliban Pakistan. Umar who has also been reported to be the head of Sharia committee in Pakistan has been the leader of AQIS since April 2014.
AQIS has been active since September 2014 and has announced Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and the United states as it opponents. AQIS has taken responsibility for killing the Bangladeshi Bloggers and in a video have even talked about the Indian prime minister.
Seeing their capability of hacking into a government site, the officials need to be on high alert. We have already seen 2 very brutal attacks this year, one in Pathankot and the other in Pampore. Such acts give strength to their claim of being strong and powerful against the state which of course doesn’t stand true or good in any sense.
