On Monday, the Collegium approved the nominations of three justices to the Supreme Court.
It has been suggested that Chief Justices Satish Chandra Sharma of the Delhi High Court, Augustine George Masih of the Rajasthan High Court, and Sandeep Mehta of the Gauhati High Court be promoted to the Center for Supreme Court justices.
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma
Since June 28, 2022, Justice Satish Sharma has served as the Delhi High Court’s top justice. He was appointed chief judge of Telangana High Court on October 11, 2021, and held that role till his transfer to Delhi High Court. On January 18, 2008, he was named a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Prior to being promoted to the rank of judge in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Sharma worked as a civil, criminal, constitutional, and service lawyer.
Judge Sharma has more than 15 years of experience as a high court judge and two years as the court’s chief justice.
Justice Augustine George Masih
On July 10, 2008, Justice Augustine Masih was appointed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. On May 30, 2023, he was promoted as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. He used to practice in constitutional, service, civil, and labor cases prior to being promoted to the rank of judge.
Justice Sandeep Mehta
On May 30, 2011, Justice Sandeep Mehta was appointed to the Rajasthan High Court. He was promoted as chief judge of the Gauhati High Court after gaining seniority there, and he has been there since February 15. For more than a decade, Justice Mehta presided over the high court as a judge.
