IANS Authorities on Tuesday did not allow any pilgrim to move from winter capital Jammu towards the Valley despite 6,679 Yatris had ‘Darshan’ inside the Cave Shrine on Monday. 700 Yatris were placed at Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on Tuesday. A senior police officer told IANS – “The decision to allow the pilgrims to proceed to the Valley will be taken after reviewing the situation later in the day.” The total number of Yatris who have performed this year’s Amarnath Yatra has reached 1,79,530 so far.
Officials of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) said another batch of 6,679 pilgrims had Darshan inside the Cave Shrine on Monday. Many Yatris are reportedly placed at safe places on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway where “Langar” (Free Kitchen) facilities are available. Sources also said these pilgrims would be allowed to move towards the Valley after the highway is cleared for safe entrance.
IANS reports also revealed that Tension grasped the Qazigund area on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Monday evening when a crowd of pilgrims attacked an army patrol party. Two civilians were killed and four injured in the firing at protesters by the army at Khanabal on the same day.
