DC is set to release the sequel to their billion-dollar hit, Aquaman, bringing back Amber Heard as Mera, a figure who has stirred controversy in Hollywood after her divorce from American actor Johnny Depp.
The journey to bring director James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to the big screen has been massive. Despite the challenges faced, the film is on the verge of its highly-anticipated premiere in December, with some concerning factors.A few people even dubbed it “unwatchable” after watching early test screenings, which left viewers unimpressed. The movie faced a laborious post-production process as well, which included three rounds of pricey reshoots.
Fans supported Depp during the legal dispute between him and Heard, which led to online abuse of Heard. Emilia Clarke was recommended by some fans as a substitute in a petition advocating for her removal from the sequel.
Although DC didn’t completely cut Heard from the movie, rumours say that in order to appease critics, her part as Mera has been changed.
Mera will make an appearance in the sequel anyway, and the plot could hint that she and Arthur have had a kid since the events of the first movie. In a teaser video for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Warner Bros. teases Heard’s return to the superhero franchise.
The link between the two sequels is suggested by Mera’s apparent donning of a greenish outfit from the original Aquaman movie. Heard will likely appear in this sequel in a fresh, more blue-tinted outfit, though.
