BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2019, had given a bold yet historic decision in the history of Indian politics. The government scrapped Article 370 that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir. It is a controversial article deals with special powers conferred upon the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It allows the state constituent Assembly to make its own Constitution, thereby giving it an autonomous state power. Now it has been removed.
Amidst that, social media users are now reading or seeing about a Bollywood film on their social media feeds titled as Section 375. Well, to let you know, the two of these Articles in the IPC have far different meanings. The Section 375 of IPC defines rape as “sexual intercourse with a woman against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud or at a time when she has been intoxicated or duped, or is of unsound mental health and in any case if she is under 16 years of age.“
The trailer of the film Section 375 shows a rape victim, played by Meera Chopra narrating her ordeal to the cops. Then, in the next scene, it turns to the courtroom where Richa Chadha plays a tough public prosecutor trying to get justice for the survivor. On the other hand, Akshaye Khanna plays the defence lawyer.
