Amitabh Bachchan who recently attended the Kolkata International Film 2022 on Thursday mentioned that there have been question raised on the concept of freedom on expression of Hindi films off late. The actor focused on censorship and the need of expression during the audience’s address.
The extravaganza was inaugurated in the gracious presence of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and celebrities Amitabh, Shah Rukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji among others. Shah Rukh also expressed his views on the negative effects of social media.
In a clip shared by news portal ANI, Amitabh was quoted saying, “The 1952 Cinematograph Act set out the structure of censorship as it stands today upheld by the film certification board (Central Board of Film Certification). But even now, ladies and gentlemen–and I am sure my colleagues on stage will agree–questions are being raised on civil liberties and freedom of expression.”
The festival featured ace singer Arijit Singh while he also sung few lines of Gerua from the film Dilwale, and bowed towards Shah Rukh. Shatrughan Sinha identified Shah Rukh as the ‘national superstar’ in his speech.
Amitabh last appeared in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai, which garnered moderate success at the box office. The actor recently concluded with the final season of the famous game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
