With the bright sun shining over them, completely wet with sweat and tiring bodies were playing 13-year-old Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli in the semifinals of 1988 Harris Shield inter-school tournament. Then record for their great partnership was 664 runs and the whole team won the match with the total of 748 runs. The heroes for the whole team that time were Sachin and Kambli but not so far from the light was Amol Muzumdar.
The Story Of This Cricket God Is Surely Saddening But Still Appreciable
Who don’t want to get his dreams fulfilled? Even Amol Muzumdar also wanted to fulfill his dream and play for India in an international cricket match but with a heavy stone on his heart, he had to bury his dreams.
5 years after the 1988 tournament, Amol Muzumdar made his debut for Mumbai in the Ranji trophy against Haryana and made a still existing world record for the highest score on first class debut. Moreover, the spectacular amount of runs which he made in his 21 years of cricket career are 11,167 runs.
But Still He Never Got A Chance To Play In Team India
Even after being in the same school as Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli and the face popular between great cricketers like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman, Muzumdar was the victim of bad timings. Whereas Dravid and Ganguly shined brightly in the tests and ODIs, Mazumdar still remained the part of Class A team.
When Ravi Shastri and Navjot Singh Sidhu retired from internationals leaving opened slots for a good grab, but again Laxman, Dravid, and Ganguly stole the show with Ganguly scoring an amazing 171 runs.
All three of them were selected in the International Cricket team except Amol
Ever since then, Amol Muzumdar continued to lead in the domestic circuit and represented Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Mumbai, in fact, he was the shining star for Mumbai who scored amazing 30 centuries and won 8 Ranji trophies.
It would have been great if not Amol Muzumdar, but Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Saurav Ganguly had got the chance to play with him in an International game and the whole world has praised his excellence.
Unfortunately, this is not possible now because Amol Muzumdar retired in the year 2014 without even playing for team India.
