Industrialist Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has recently announced via a series of tweets that he intends to gift six young Indian cricketers one SUV each for their performance on the field, which helped India secure the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Indian cricket team has successfully secured a monumental win against Australia in the test series. The last match was held at ‘Fortress Gabba’ where India beat the Aussies by three wickets. This series saw the debut of six young and promising Indian cricketers, namely, T. Natarajan, Mohammad Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, and Shubhman Gill. Each of these players will be presented with a Mahindra Thar SUV for their outstanding performance as debutantes.
Anand Mahindra made his announcement on Twitter. He stated that the cost incurred for the six SUVs would be paid from his bank account at no expense of the Mahindra Company. He shared a video from BRUT that featured the six debutante cricketers on his Twitter account and praised the six players in question for their debuts in the recent historic test series in Australia. Mahindra lauded them for inspiring the youth of India with their grit and performance to dream big and explore the impossible. He continued to tweet about their win and added how the stories of these cricketers were the real and authentic ‘Rise’ stories since they had to overcome several obstacles and odds in their life to reach their level of excellence. He mentioned how they were inspiring to people across all areas of life and how he took great personal pleasure to appreciate their efforts by gifting them with an All New THAR SUV.
During the second innings at Fortress Gabba, Mohammed Siraj was responsible for taking five wickets by himself as the new star in the Indian cricket team. He bears the title of being the highest wicket-taker for Team India in its last three matches in the series.
The New Year Test in Sydney saw the debut of Navdeep Saini. The management of the Indian team relied on T Natrajan and Washington Sundar during the test in Gabba. Batsman Shubhaman Gill successfully made it to Anand Mahindra’s special list as the only batsmen. He has scored a whopping 259 runs, with an average of 51.60 throughout three test matches in the series. He secured the highest score of 91. Shardul Thakur is also on Mahindra’s list as a recipient of the THAR SUV. He added 123 runs in the first innings at Gabba for the seventh wicket. Thakur scored 6 runs with his own bat.
Mahindra explained his reason for gifting the six debutantes with the SUVs. He wishes to motivate the youth of India to have a strong sense of self-belief and take the road less travelled to attain success. He requested Mahindra Auto to deliver the SUVs to the cricketers on priority. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy won by India has been inspiring for the people around the country, especially to the youth, due to the contributions of the six young cricketers on the pitch.
