On the cricket field, we have witness many sledging moments, weird encounters of players and fights etc. But there are also some times that show the spirit of the game and made everyone proud. One of those moments we witnessed in India vs Australia match on June 9, 2019.
It all happened when Indian fans were booing Australian player Steve Smith who last year found guilty in with ball tampering charges. To let you know, Steve Smith and David Warner are getting booed by English crowd ever since their return from a year ban following the ball-tampering scandal.
When Indian fans were doing the same to Steve Smith, it was Indian captain Virat Kohli who showed up the unique yet classy heartfelt gesture. He asked the Indian fans to stop booing and cheer him instead. Watch it below:
This made him a hero of the day and he won the hearts of both Australian and Indian fans.
One of the people who loved Kohli’s gesture was his beloved wife Anushka Sharma.
She shared a screenshot and put it as her story on Instagram to tell about the great man she married and his qualities that make it so easy to love him.
India won this match by 36 runs and post-match presentation Kohli said, “I think what’s happened has happened long back. The guy is back, trying to play well for his side. Even in the IPL, I saw him, it’s not good to see a guy feel down. You don’t want to see someone feel the heat every time he plays. Just because there are so many Indian fans here, I don’t want them to set a bad example. He didn’t do anything to be booed in my opinion. I felt for him and told him sorry on behalf of the crowd. In my opinion that’s not acceptable.”
