“Stay,” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber topped the rankings in the Apple Music’s global song list in 2022. This song emerged as the most listened-to tunes.
“Stay,” which also left a mark by staying at the top of the coveted Billboard Hot 100 for seven long weeks also managed to fetch the best on Apple Music’s top 100 global songs for 51 days in a row. Elton John and Dua Lipa’s “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” topped the streamer’s Shazam chart and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” became the most-read lyrics in 2022 on the music app.
Sharing the top slots along with Stay were the top-performing songs “As It Was” sung by Harry Styles, “Wait For U” by Future in collaboration with Drake and Tems, “Super Gremlin” sung by Kodak Black, “Easy on Me” by Adele, and “Heat Wave” sung by Glass Animals. Hip-hop glued to the top as the most heard genre followed by pop and thereafter R&B/soul.
“It’s really the rise of what was once very niche genres creeping into the mainstream, which is an exciting new development on the platform,” averred Rachel Newman, global head of editorial.
Twenty-one non-English songs joined the global Top 100. Fifty-five Latin songs made it to the Global Daily Top 100. Around 50 J-pop reached the top 10.
Apple Music made it big this year with its a recording rate of 100 million songs streaming service and availability. Historically, the platform has surpassed YouTube which facilitates 80 million songs, Spotify’s 82 million songs and podcasts, and Amazon Music’s 90 million tracks.
“One hundred million songs for us is really significant because I think it is such a kind of great reflection of just how diverse and enormous the music world is these days,” Newman added. “It’s the largest and most diverse collection of music in any kind of format ever in the history of music, which is just pretty astounding.”
