Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Buddhism all the major religion in India believes and support organ and tissue donation but still about 300  people die every day because of organ failure and 500,000 people die every year because of non- availability of it. And now The health ministry is planning to organise donation campaign with the help of  Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and The Art of Living’s Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, to make public of India aware about the importance of organ donation and to eliminate myths about the same.



Many people in India do not donate the organ because of the myths they have or have heard from someone else. Several studies reveal that some people believe that donating organ will affect their next birth. This is all superstition and to end this The health ministry is taking help of these gurus.

Health minister J P Nadda and senior officials have held two rounds of discussions with these gurus and now are planning campaigns on organ donation, which is expected to launch soon. Many people still believe that religion discourages organ donation.This is the main reason that Health Ministry is involving gurus like Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar as they have a lot of followers and people have faith in them.Besides famous religious leader’s the government is also planning  to involve popular and reputed medical practitioner and Bollywood celebrities.
