President Barack Obama delivered his farewell speech Tuesday night to a nation he helped transform during his eight years in the White House. He chose to make his farewell address as commander-in-chief in the city where he started his political career-Chicago.
In his utterly emotional speech he described his wife Michelle Obama as his “best friend” and said to his daughters Sasha and Malia that he is a proud Dad.
He broke into sentiments for an hour in hometown Chicago, wiped tears and paid tribute to his loving family. He said,
“Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, the girl of the south side, for the past 25 years, you have not only been my wife and mother of my children, you have been my best friend. You took on a role you didn’t ask for and made it your own with grace and grit and style and good humor. A new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud.”
The whole crowd present in the hall melted by his words and went into a weepy mess.
For his daughters Obama said,
“Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion. You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I’ve done in my life, I’m most proud to be your dad.”
Obama addressed a crowd of 18,000 people and made everyone wiping their tears. This was the same place where he delivered his victory speech 8 years ago. No, doubt! The White House is surely going to miss this amazing family comprising amazing people.
