Yes, you read the headline right! Barack Obama and Brad Pitt are cousins. Both of them shared a common ancestor. Edwin Hickman is the person who died in Virginia in 1769. Obama is a direct descendant of Hickman’s son James through the president’s white Kansas-born mother, Ann Dunham Sutoro.
On the other hand, Hickman’s other son Edwin Jr, James’s brother, is head of the line leading to Brad Pitt.
Christopher Child, a genealogist at the New England Historic Genealogical Society who worked on Barack Obama’s family tree said:
“If people have ancestors in a common part of the country they will be more likely to find connections – in Obama and Pitt’s case the South.”
Also, Hillary Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother’s side, has been unveiled as a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette.
