Beyonce hit the stage for the first time since announcing that she’s pregnant with twins at the 2017 Grammy Awards. Actually, Grammy’s viewers were hoping for a surprise from her, and she delivered.
Beyonce has performed two songs from her album “Lemonade” during a nine-minute artistic set that celebrated motherhood. The superstar was introduced by her mother, Tina Knowles.
“What makes me most proud and why I’m here tonight to introduce Beyoncé is the devotion and love I see in her for her daughter, [Blue Ivy, 5], and the way she has always expressed love to all of those around her. I believe she earned nine Grammy nominations for her Lemonade album this year. Because of all that and more, it’s evident with her powerful words and music. Ladies and gentlemen, with a mother’s pride — my daughter Beyoncé.”
Beyonce went into Sunday’s awards show with a leading nine nominations and won one for the “Formation” music video. Singer Adele beat Beyonce in the pop vocal performance category, and her best-selling “25” also won for pop vocal album.
The best part was the Beyonce’s statement (The beauty of being black). Some of the high points of it:
“Hi baby. Thank you to the Grammy voters for this incredible honor. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to beautifully capture the profundity of deep Southern culture. It’s important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty, so they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror — first to their own families as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the White House and the Grammys — and see themselves. And have no doubt that they are beautiful, intelligent and capable. This is something I want for every child of every race. And I feel it’s vital that we learn from the past and recognize our tendencies to repeat our mistakes.”
