Marvel Studios recently confirmed that Black Widow has been postponed again. The film will not be released in theaters in May, but will be released in July. A release that takes place both on Disney + and in theaters.
According to The Observer, that was a good choice for Disney and Marvel. The film would now experience a higher box office.
Great box office
Under normal circumstances, a Marvel film is worth $ 1 billion at the worldwide box office. But times are of course different, with cinemas that are partly closed worldwide and audiences that have not yet found their way back to some extent.
Analyst Jeff Bock thinks procrastination was a good thing. He states that the release is now heading for an opening weekend of $ 45 million in the United States. There, the film could earn about $ 170 million at the end of the ride if all goes well.
But of course that is by no means certain. It is clear that “the postponement of this film can only help, and the film industry now seems to be increasingly finding its way” according to Bock. It’s not certain how it will turn out, but the first Marvel movie to be seen exclusively on Disney + could ultimately lead to good earnings on that platform as well.
