26 years old Sarah Begum is also known as the real life Amazon Queen. Here is the reason why – There are many tribes present in this world that possess bizarre traditions. One of them belongs to Ecuador’s Amazon rain forests named as Huaorani tribe. Actually, people who belong to this tribe never share their secrets or traditions with anyone. If someone wants to know about them he or she need marry one of the members of the clan.
Sarah Begum, a British filmmaker, decided to make a documentary on the life of these people. She wanted to cover the way of living, culture and heritage of these people. When she reached them she came to know that these people share none of the above things with anyone. She also came to know that she need to marry one of them. So in order to complete her documentary film, Sarah married 32 years old Ginkto.
Sarah privately financed her project and traveled 9300km from London to Ecuador to meet her two filmmaking colleagues. Sarah doesn’t know swimming so she traveled for two days from the Amazon town of Coca, by boat across piranha and alligator infested waters, stopped overnight at a beach to fish for their food before finally contacting the tribe she had dreamt about from childhood.
Sarah’s marriage ceremony with Ginkto was symbolic to make her officially part of the tribe’s family, so she would help spread their call for help to the outside world. She was not expected to have a sexual relationship with Ginkto. She completed her film and named it “Amazon Souls” and it has been shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
