A court of Maharashtra considered the word “Chammak Chalo” an abuse or insult of women. The court said calling a woman Chammak Chalo means to insults her modesty under IPC section 509. The Magistrate of Thane Court punished the culprit and fined him with Rupee 1. A woman filed a case against her neighbour after being called as Chammak Chalo by him many times, 8 years ago. She first went to Police but the police refused to register her complaint. She then knocked the door of court and filed a case against him.
To let you know, in many Bollywood films this word is used to show the raunchiness of the women. Even there is a song in Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Ra-One. Shah Rukh Khan even used the word twice in film Chennai Express.
Magistrate RT Ingley ordered that the words used by the neighbour of the woman are unsocial. It’s an abuse of them. According to IPC section 509, it is an offence. If any person found doing so he will be punished under IPC 509.
