Engineers can build anything, that’s what they are most famous for, from marvels to skyscrapers, the list of wonders by these engineers never end and now there’s one more addition to that list which is the world’s longest rail tunnel in Switzerland.
It took complete 17 years to get this tunnel built and to your surprise it was built by 2,400 workers and more than 28 million tons of rock was used.
This tunnel is world’s longest rail tunnel and is 57.1 km long, it has been also regarded as the symbol of European unity.
The tunnel is located in the heart of the majestic Alps in Switzerland and weighed 12 billion dollars to the country to get built.
It is supposed to reduce the time taken to travel between Zurich to Milan in Italy a little more than an hour and 15,000 trains are expected to use it till the year 2020.
Moreover, the lucky people who’ll get a chance to travel in this tunnel at the official opening will be the 500 lucky winners and the guests of 130,000 ticket lottery participants.
