After Made in Heaven 2 directors Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti were accused by novelist Yashica Dutt of using her life’s work without her permission, famous celebrity designer Tarun Tahiliani also expressed his displeasure on social media. On his official Instagram page, Tarun accused the creators of the web series of using his clothes line and attributing them to a fictitious label that was represented by a fictitious designer named Akshay Jaiswal in Episode 2.
Mrunal Thakur, who had a significant part in Episode 2, allegedly wore clothes made by Tarun Tahiliani. He posted pictures of Mrunal wearing his creations on Instagram and expressed his displeasure by writing, “It is most unfortunate when a popular OTT series violates the understanding behind the provision of clothing in the first place! Case in point: Significant portions of the second episode of ‘Made in Heaven,’ were styled using clothes provided by the Tarun Tahiliani studio in good faith to the stylist.”
Tarun further added, “Unfortunately, a fictitious designer (actor) representing a fictitious label presented our garments! This is a shocking breach of faith. If this is what the production house intended, they should have engaged a costume designer, had costumes designed, and proceeded as they saw fit.”
He wraps up, “Let’s hope that this scenario does not repeat itself with other designers who have graciously lent their work for OTT productions. Furthermore, it is our hope that such actions will never be considered acceptable in the future. Tarun Tahiliani.” Tarun Tahiliani’s statement (Source: Tarun/Instagram)
Before this, Yashica Dutt, a Columbia University alumna and the author of Coming Out As Dalit, claimed that the show’s makers had used parts of her life experience to inspire Radhika Apte’s role in Episode 5 without her consent and without giving due credit. Zoya Akhtar published a thorough message on Instagram on Thursday in response to these allegations, debunking Yashica’s assertion.
