In Chattisgarh, the authorities have ordered an inquiry into the alleged molestation of school girls by CRPF jawans at a government-run Ashram at Palnar in Dantewada district in south Chhattisgarh. Both the Chattisgarh Police and CRPF have begun a separate investigation into the matter.
Incident Took Place During Raksha Bandhan Event
On July 31, a Raksha Bandhan programme was organised by the CRPF jawans at a local school in which nearly 500 girls took part to tie sacred threads (Rakhi) on army officers.
According to the Hindustan Times, Abhishek Pallav, additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Dantewada said: “We have received a complaint from the warden of the hostel against the unknown men in uniform and started an investigation. An FIR under Section 354 IPC has been registered promptly at Kuakonda police station. More sections can be added based on Section 164 of the CrPC and statements of victims.”
Also, Himanshu Kumar, an activist, told Hindustan Times that, “after the completion of the programme few girls went to the toilet and there they were molested by the CRPF jawans in the name of frisking.”
The warden later complained about the act to senior administrative officers.
A five-member committee, headed by the Dantewada Zila panchayat chief executive officer other includes district education officer (DEO), tehsildar, Dantewada additional superintendent of police (ASP) and sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) was formed to probe the matter.
