DC’s recent release Black Adam, the superhero movie has ben reportedly restricted for the release in China. Interestingly, China has been the second-largest market for Hollywood films. A report by fan forums state that the sole reason to ban the film was due to Pierce Brosnan’s, a featured artist comments made on the spiritual leader Dalai Lama. Tibet has always been the burning topic in China and Dalai Lama’s association with the former has been turned down completely.
Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson has managed to earn $200 million overseas. It was expected that the film will be launched in China later this year however, the plan has presumably put an end to.
Based on the forum Box Office Theory, an insider with a pseudonym Issac Newton stated that Black Adam is banned in China. In the cue of this, the government has affirmed that since the film features Piece who has once met the Dalai Lama, thereby the ban.
In a conversation with GQ, Pierce Brosnan has stated an anecdote in which he speaks about a meeting with the Dalai Lama and appreciated him. This could perhaps be the reason to ban Black Adam, however, there has been no official announcement made yet.
