One of the directors of the renowned DD show based on the legendary epic, Moti Sagar, believes that the Adipurush crew may have been more cautious in their approach to the Ramayana.
Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, has received criticism on social media for its shoddy visual effects and jargon-filled speech, with writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla facing criticism for Lord Hanuman’s lines in the “Lanka Dahan” sequence among other things.
“Certain dialogues, which I am reading on the news and on Twitter, I can say they could have been careful,” Moti Sagar, who was part of the 1987 TV show Ramayan along with his father Ramanand Sagar and brother Prem Sagar, added PTI.
“He (writer) must have thought of making the film more attractive for the common man, who speaks such language,” the director-producer averred.
On Friday, the Ramayana retelling Adipurush was released in theatres. Prabhas plays Raghav, Kriti Sanon plays Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan plays Lankesh in the film.

The multilingual movie, made by T-Series, was released in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil across the country. Many viewers criticised the characters for using very simple language, particularly Devdatta Nage’s portrayal of Hanuman.
According to Moti Sagar, in order to appeal to a younger audience, the filmmakers treated the movie like a superhero movie.
“They would have thought that today’s generation will accept something which is like Marvel comics and other things, something that will connect more with them. Perhaps, they thought they can tell the same story of Ramayana but in their language, so people will understand it better,” he further added.
When PTI called the director Raut and the author Muntashir, they were unavailable for comment.
It was easier to explore the complexity of the mythological epic when Ramayan was made as a TV serial, according to Moti Sagar, who said that doing so in a “three-hour film” would be challenging.

“This is a totally different genre. I would not compare Ramayan that we made with this film. I’ve heard that a lot of effort has gone into the making of this movie, the music and everything. The big stars, they all have worked hard.”
Adipurush, which is being made by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, has a 500 crore dollar budget. The film’s producers asserted that it made 140 crore on Friday, the first day of sales.
