Bollywood Icon Deepika Padukone visited JNU on Tuesday to join the protest and solicit the students who was attacked by a mob inside the University campus.
Many Bollywood celebrities have opposed the violence against students at Jawaharlal Nehru University and are speaking out through social media. Celebrities peacefully protested about this in Mumbai too. Now actress Deepika Padukone has supported JNU students. Deepika reached JNU on Tuesday evening, whose photos are being shared fiercely on social media. Talking to the news channel the actress said that she is feeling proud that the people are raising voice against the matter and aren’t scared to express themselves. If we want to see a change in life and society, it is important that a point of view be put forward,” she added. Deepika is in Delhi since Monday to promote her film Chhapaak. On Tuesday evening, the brave actress reached Jawaharlal University and met the victims of violence. However, she did not make any statements during this time. ANI has shared a video of Deepika’s presence, in which she is seen standing among the students. Earlier on Monday, in a conversation with NDTV, Deepika said on the JNU issue – I am proud to see that we are not afraid to express ourselves. Whatever may be the outlook, but it is good that people are talking about the future of the country.
On Sunday evening, a mob of masked men entered the JNU campus and assaulted the students and teachers armed with sticks and rods, which is being opposed on many levels. JNU students are also getting support from Bollywood celebrities. On Monday, several Bollywood celebrities peacefully protested in Mumbai, which included celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Vishal Bhardwaj. On Tuesday at around 7.40 pm Deepika’s reached the university and attended a public meeting, called by JNU University. She triggered netizens to trend her on Twitter, some in favor while some, in support of the ruling BJP government against her.
