Umar Gul, one of the famous fast bowlers of Pakistan is currently away from the cricket. Umar Gul has been amongst the best bowlers in T20 cricket. Had fitness issues not marred his progress, he could have been a bigger figure in the game. He played a few games for Kolkata in the IPL 2008 and signed off in style by winning them the last league game against Kings XI Punjab.
In 2012, his name made headlines, when the Pakistani Army made a raid at his house. He and his brother were accused of providing shelter to most wanted terrorist Hajid Ali. The commandos of Pakistani Army raided cricketer Umar Gul’s house in Peshawar and arrested his brother on charges of harbouring a wanted militant. The fast bowler’s brother, Meraj, was arrested with two other men on charges of providing shelter to his uncle, Hajid Ali. He believed to be an active member of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam, according to the reports published in Express Tribune.
However, Umar Gul was found innocent after the investigation and later freed. But after that incident, he got criticised by the Pakistani people badly. He was also an accused of abusing umpire on the cricket field.
However, this incident put a great impact on her life as well as on his career. He is away from the cricket currently and is still waiting for day when he get a call to play for his country again.
