Disney+Hotstar which is recognised as one of India’s largest OTT player has terminated the contact with HBO and thereby will stop streaming HBO content like Game of Thrones, Euphoria, and the very latest ‘The Last of Us’.
Disney+Hotstar tweeted,” Hi! Starting 31st March, HBO content will be unavailable on Disney+ Hotstar. You can continue enjoying Disney+ Hotstar’s vast library of content spanning over 100,000 hours of TV Shows and Movies in 10 languages and coverage of major global sporting events,” a user responded on Twitter,” Why is S10 of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver still not available?? Is it some rights issues?.”
Hotstar’s paid service which features a range of international shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Chernobyl” and sports shows like Premier League soccer.
Disney+ Hotstar, will include two units of subscription where the premium will include its original shows like “Star Wars” TV series “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision” and “Loki” from Marvel.
Walt Disney Co previously made a massive layoffs of 7,000 jobs to save $5.5 billion in operational costs and keep the business running and profitable. The layoffs resulted into 3.6% of Disney’s global workforce.
Under the strategy to bring down the costs and bring power to the creative executives, the company will revamp into three units: an entertainment unit that includes film, television and streaming; a sports-centric ESPN unit; and other Disney parks, experiences and products.
“This reorganization will result in a more cost-effective, coordinated approach to our operations,” Iger mentioned while speaking to the analysts on a conference call. “We are committed to running efficiently, especially in a challenging environment.”
