Donald Trump will travel to Asia in November for the first time since becoming the US President. The trip is scheduled from 3-14 November and the president will be joined by his wife, Melania. The countries which he will likely to visit are China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Philippines.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum And Association of Southeast Asian Nations
Donald Trump will attend two major summits such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Vietnam. Trump’s presence at the first summit which will be going to held in Manila had been in doubt as he has some differences with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
An Asian diplomat welcomed Trump’s decision to visit Manila
“Because that reassures the region that Asia policy is not just about North Korea, it’s about Southeast Asia as well.”
Actually, earlier this year, Trump decided to withdraw the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal which raised many questions across the globe. But then, many senior officials such as secretaries of state, defence and commerce visited the region and moreover, the announcement of the Trump’s visit gives birth to the new hopes.
The White House said in announcing the trip:
“The president’s engagements will strengthen the international resolve to confront the North Korean threat and ensure the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.”
