Around 6.40 am today, an engine and 6 coaches of Nagpur-bound Duronto Express derailed near Asangaon in Maharashtra’s Thane district. No passenger was reported to be injured in the accident. A rescue team has already reached the ground zero from Kalyan.
Central Railway tweeted to inform the incident: “12290 Nagpur-CSMT Duranto Exp derailed between Asangaon and Vasind. No injuries to any Passengers.
Authority is arranging buses to bring passengers to the destination. Local train services between Kalyan and Mumbai CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) remain unaffected but the suburban local train services of the Central Railway in Mumbai and Thane were affected.
The exact cause of the derailment is not yet clear but if rumors are to be believed, a sudden landslide caused the accident after heavy rains in the Kasara Ghats section.
In the past two weeks, this is the third derailment incident in the country. On August 20, 14 coaches of the Utkal Express derailed which resulted in the death of 23 people.
On August 23, Kaifiyat Express ran off the tracks in Auraiya district.
