Vice-captain KL Rahul is expected to miss the series decider between India and England on India’s next tour to England. Rahul, who was named captain of the side for the South Africa series, suffered an injury before the series began as the groyne injury forced him to get ruled out of the home series. Rishabh Pant was the stand-in captain for team India in the on going battle which SA leads by 2-1. India has appointed their third skipper – Hardik Pandya as Pant is set to fly to England anytime soon.
Due to a groin injury, Rahul, who was supposed to captain India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, was ruled out of the five-match T20I series against South Africa on the eve of the series. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI plans to send the Karnataka player to Germany by the end of June or early July.
Rahul going abroad has been confirmed to Cricbuzz by the BCCI. “That is correct, the board is working on his fitness and he will be going to Germany soon,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told Cricbuzz on Thursday (June 16). Rahul is likely to fly out to Germany by the end of this month or early July.
Rahul will miss India’s tour of England, which includes one Test (from July 1 to 5) and six white ball games (three Twenty20 Internationals and as many One-Day Internationals). For the tour, he was named vice-captain with skipper Rohit Sharma, but India’s selectors will have to name another deputy.
