Late actor Sridevi has been known for the superfluity of roles she have portrayed to date. Her film English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde has been critically loved and lauded by the audience. This movie also marked her comeback to the Bollywood and have completed almost a decade since its release. The director, Gauri Shinde opens up on how the late actress reacted to the script.
Shinde states his first meet up with the actress as a “blind date.” She also disclosed that the actress was quick enough to come on board. She averred, “At the end of the narration, I remember her first response – I don’t know about you, but I would like to do this film.”
Even though the movie served to be a massive hit at the box office, the making of the him was brimmed with obstacles and difficulties. The filmmaker said, “This venture faced a lot of difficulties to take off. It was a simple story about a woman in a saree, which nobody thought had appeal for the audience.” She also mentioned the fact that she was not focused to make a stream of women-centric movies with women herself in the pivotal roles, however, she is utterly humbled with the result of the film.
To the surprise of the filmmaker, legendary stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar were kind enough to appear as a cameo in the film. She averred, “Having Amit Ji and Sridevi in the same film was like an ‘Oh My God’ movement for me. Who wouldn’t jump on an idea like this? Amit Ji was gracious to do this for my film, and all the credit goes to (R) Balki.”
The 2012 movie featuring Adil Hussain, Priya Anand, Mehdi Nebbou and Sumeet Vyas was produced by late business tycoon Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Sunil Lulla, R. Balki, RK Damani and Ilana Rossein.
