Alcohol and Caffeine
Late night ingestion of either alcohol or caffeine can cause nocturia that breaks sleep. They both can induce a diuresis which can wake you up quite a few times.
Neurological Disorders and Increased Age
Dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system can cause severe bladder dysfunction. As far as your age increases, the capacity of your bladder decreases, thus resulting in midnight urination.
In a lot of cases, abdominal obesity has been associated with an increased incidence of nighttime urination.
