“Fear the Walking Dead ” featured a shocking death upon his return after a month away from AMC when Season 6 Episode 8 showed John Dorie (played by Garret Dillahunt) struggling with suicidal thoughts for most of the episode before dying at the hands of his wife June. (Jenna Elfman).
At the start of the episode, titled ” The Door ” , John hesitates between pointing a gun at his head or getting close to zombies. Morgan (Lennie James) Yes Dakota (Zoe Margaret Colletti) they find him and save him from the walkers. So, Morgan try to convince John Dorie’s suicide to continue.
John then find out that Dakota was the one who killed Cameron (Noah Khyle) in episode 4 . This revelation gives you the reason why you have to live while trying to help Dakota change their customs. She, however, has no intention of this and shoots him in the chest, dropping him into a river.
John fight for your life down the river. His wife Jun he finally finds him on the shore, but has already been zombified Then she chooses to kill her husband with a knife, precisely this act is the one that amazed the public because no one expected something like this happens to be one of its main characters this season.
THE DEATH OF JOHN DORIE IN “THE WALKING DEAD”
Since Ian Goldberg Yes Andrew Chambliss they assumed as showrunners of “Fear the undead” of AMC in the season 4 , the series has mostly avoided large dead shocking … until now. From the first mid-season this week, “The door” , written by Goldberg Yes Chambliss and directed by Michael E . Satrazemis , we are officially in the heartbreaking, heartbreaking territory of “Anyone Can Die Anytime.” “
At the end of “The Door” , the beloved character John Dorie died there. “It’s something we started talking about at the start of season six. “ He said Goldberg to Decider , ” And where it really came in the growing war between our characters and Virginia, we knew that in the end, there should be a cost. In the episode, John live on his own after splitting June on the November show “Bury her next to Jasper’s leg” .
John planning to kill himself, to be Morgan Yes Dakota , fleeing evil sister in Dakota , Virginia . John agrees to lead them across a dangerous zombie-infested bridge, and does so, only to find that the reason he got involved in a suicidal ideation in the first place was basically caused by Dakota .
Long ago in “The Key,” it turns out Dakota killed Cameron because he discovered her secret way of escaping the city. Virginia covered everything, and John he was forced to live with his inability to find the culprit. Once Dakota reveals John’s secret , she shoots him and then throws him into the river. The worst? John lives, or at least seems to live, and receives a new lease of life thanks to the event.
But when June finds it floating in the doorway as a title, he is already dead and converted. She must resign. Her own husband. In short, it’s exhausting. However, this is not the only long-standing mystery we are getting an answer to. Finally we find out who saved Morgan after being left for dead and surrounded by zombies at the end of Season 5 , and it was none other than… Dakota , again.
Morgan he is the only man capable of killing Virginia , so it saved her life. It’s a lot to digest, and if we look deeper, we’re probably still reeling from the revelations. With that in mind, Decider discussed all of these events with Goldberg Yes Chambliss , explored what it was like to set up the most heart-wrenching and heartbreaking “Fear the Living Dead” episode in a long, long time.
HOW DID THE DECISION TO KILL JOHN DORIE BECOME?
Ian Golberg he commented on Decider on the following : “ This is something we started talking about at the start of Season 6, and where it really came from, in this ever-growing war between our characters and Virginia, we knew. that in the end, there had to be a cost. And it had to be painful that it had repercussions and ramifications on as many of our characters as possible. As much as it hurt, we realized that the person, the character that he should be was John Dorie. ”
“Between him and Morgan, he’s the connector that built this whole extended family. If you go back to the start of Season 4, that’s where it all started. That’s really how we approach the deaths of characters on the show, holistically like never before, wanting them to matter, to mean something, and to be heartbreaking, so that audiences feel it as much as the characters. This is where it comes from. ”
“We saw a very different side of John Dorie before this episode, and that was seeing him in his darkest and most desperate moment, and bringing him back to a place of renewed hope and purpose, which is ultimately where it got even more tragic. Because that’s just when he found his way back to the extinguished light. ”
Completed response Andrew Chambliss commenting: “These types of conversations are always difficult, because everyone on the show, from us as writers and producers, to the actors who play the characters, and even the production crew, who works with them every day, is very attached to the characters and you feel a personal connection with them. So when we made the decision to kill John Dorie, we brought Garret into the conversation early on and really explained the reasoning behind it, and what we thought he would do for the show. ”
“Like Ian said, we saw a different side of John Dorie, we saw him go to a very dark place, we hadn’t seen him the last two seasons with him. While Garret was disappointed with the character’s fate, he was very excited about the journey that would take him there, and that we could see John Dorie really put to the test and see new shades of him that we never had before. seen before. Likewise, when we broke the news to Jenna, and we did it very early in the process, when we started talking to her about the June arc for the season… ”
“She had a similar emotional reaction, mourning the loss of a character who means so much to her character. I think what really turned Jenna on was what she would do this, where would June go after that. June is a character who from the first time we met her, her existence in the universe was tied to John Dorie. He brought her back to the people, the two made this trip together. So in the future, for June, it will really be a question of who he is, where he is going to go, who he wants to be. And it’s the journey that excites us as writers, and Jen is excited as a performer.
Ian added, “After making the decision to incorporate her death into this episode, one of the first images Andrew and I had was kind of a flip in episode 4 × 05, where we saw June, and then her name was Laura, when he ran aground outside John’s cabin. It was the first time they had met and he took her to the cabin and brought her back to life. We think it would be beautifully and tragically poetic if we did the opposite. ”
“So we wanted to work on this image of John Dorie doing the dishes on the shore, and June being the one who approached him. I think what makes the moment so heartbreaking for us is that, yes, we saw John shot down by Dakota on the bridge, fatally injured, but he doesn’t give up. And he’s still fighting for life, when he finds this photo of his father at the bottom of the riverbed. What he says when he breaks the surface is, “It’s not too late” and he really wants to live. ”
“That’s why it’s so devastating to see that he just couldn’t hold out. It’s a nightmare for June to have to see her husband like this and be the one to end. This obviously has huge ramifications for her and all of our characters going forward. But for the sake of the episode, we just wanted to rip everyone’s hearts out, including our own. ”
