Madhur Bhandarkar’s forthcoming film Indu Sarkar mired in controversies just before its release. The film is based on the Jawahar Lal Nehru’s daughter and former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi’s political reign. Actress Kirti Kulhari and actor Neil Nitin Mukesh are in the lead roles. Where Kirti is playing the role of Indira Gandhi, Neil Nitin Mukesh is playing the character of Sanjay Gandhi.
The Congress on Monday condemned the alleged “false depiction” in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Indu Sarkar based on the Emergency and said the film is “fully sponsored”. Congress spokesperson Jyotiraditya Scindia said that,
“This film is fully sponsored. The organization and the individual who is behind the film is known to us. We totally condemn the false depictions in the film.”
On the other hand, the director of the film Madhur Bhandarkar said that he made the film Indu Sarkar in order to make today’s generation aware of Emergency. He said it is very important to let them know about the Emergency.
According to some inside sources, the film showcased how Neil and Kirti’s looks resemble that of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son and party leader Sanjay Gandhi. Where Congress is opposing the film, Censor Board is in favor to release the film without any NOC.
