Freedom of expression proliferating rather than curtailed.

Muffled freedom of expression I ask? There are a few words that have hit the streets like fire, call it the opposition’s game or whatever. Intolerant’ and ‘freedom of speech/expression’ have been used in case of everything and anything. Intellectuals’ have returned their awards because they feel again India is ‘Intolerant’. Many politicians feel India is not in the hands of a good leader and he is a dictator who will push out the democracy. This he says by a tweet where he even uses harsh words for the PM.

I find it odd that when you are able to do something like this then how are you able to say that India is losing its freedom of expression?

The JNU issue has been in the light for long now and I just get one thought in my mind, as to how the situation has been portrayed. Luckily the HC judge did justice to her seat when the following was written in the judgement, “The thoughts reflected in the slogans raised by some of the students of JNU who organized and participated in that programme cannot be claimed to be protected as fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression. I consider this as a kind of infection from which such students are suffering which needs to be controlled/cured before it becomes an epidemic.”

The whole debate on JNU is not on what the government is doing in the centre or on should JNU be closed. We needed to discuss the February 9 incident that how we can take out a public gathering in the name of “Judicial killing of Afzal Guru”. Freedom of expression is very much there in India only then a student leader was able to get an hour of air time on the national media, but we can’t express against our very nation.

Following is a video I don’t claim it to be authentic but if it is we have far behind left the idea of nationalism.  Enter any university in USA be it NYU, CU, BU, Missouri or any of them and hold a protest saying that Obama did wrong when he accepted the proposal from CIA to infiltrate and kill someone in Pakistan. There is not an iota of doubt that you’ll be in Guantanamo Prison before it actually closes down.

All I say is that freedom of speech is intact in India since the past one year we have seen much more interactive students more fierce speeches by leaders. The government is being criticised for the bad then how can we state that the freedom of expressing is no longer left?
