Women have been playing a major role in developing our society for ages now. Today females have come a long way and are doing better than men. And we salute all of them. So below are some names from the first woman scientist to the first electrical engineer that you should know about.
A Lalitha
Associate Member of the Council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) of London. Ayyalasomayajula Lalitha was India’s first female electrical engineer. In 1967 she was also the representative at the International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES) Cambridge.
M. Fathima Beevi
The first female judge who was part of India’s Supreme Court was Justice M. Fathima Beevi. She was the first Muslim woman assigned to any of the higher judiciaries in the country.
Dr Gagandeep Kang
Dr. Gagandeep Kang was the first female Indian scientist. She is a virologist and a professor at the Christian Medical College in Vellore.
Homai Vyarawalla
Homai Vyaravalla was India’s first female photojournalist. Back in 1936, she was the first woman to work for The Illustrated Weekly of India. The lady is also known as “Dalda 13”.
Mangala Mani

Durgabai Kamat
Indian cinema’s first actress was Durgabai Kamat. She became a part of a film titled Mohini Bhasmasur, directed by Dadasaheb Phalke. It was the first film to have a female actor.
Fatma Begum
Meet India’s first female director, Fatma Begum to direct Bulbul-e-Paristan, which was her first film in 1926. Also, she launched Fatma Films. Which was her production house.
Cornelia Sorabji
Sorabji was India’s first female advocate, not only she was the first advocate but also a female to study law from Oxford University.
Sarla Thakral
Sarla Thakral became the first Indian woman to fly an aircraft when she was just 21. Also in 1936, she flew a Gypsy Moth after she got her pilot’s license.
