As we know Cricketer Gautam Gambhir resigned as a captain of Delhi Daredevils for the 2018 IPL season due to the bad performance of his team. His team lost five matches out of the six matches they have played till now. Shreyas Iyer has replaced him with immediate effect as the captain of the team.

Gautam said,

“It was my decision. I haven’t contributed enough to the team. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. I feel it was the right time. I take full responsibility for the position we are in. And looking at the position, I have decided to step down as captain. Shreyas Iyer will take over. I still feel we have the team to turn things around this.”

He also took to Twitter to clear that the decision was taken by him only and not by the franchise or the management. Here’s what he tweeted:

Now as per the various news, Gautam refused to charge any salary for this season. Yes, he has decided to forego his entire Rs 2.8 crore salary while taking responsibility for the team’s disastrous run in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Gautam Gambhir has decided to play it for free in this season.

In his recent interview, he said that as he has failed to perform as a skipper and a player and therefore, he believes there is no point of charging any salary. It is first in the history of IPL when a player refused to take the fees.
